創作理念
Fusion Aesthetics 中的Fusion字面上翻為核融合，然而這個詞也可以譯為結合，而副標題「融合、聚集與分離的矛盾美學」是我對於自身identity的解讀，這次的展覽我將我在兩個文化背景下習得的藝術剖析及合併，在整個過程中竟讓我隱約看見一種矛盾的美感。
中西的融合
2018年夏末我隻身一人來到英國Leeds讀書，對於一個在台灣待將近20年的我，對於周遭不一樣的事物如此事感到如此雀躍卻又帶點驚慌，雀躍的是終於能親眼目睹經過歷史洗禮的英式建築，驚慌的是這種躍然於眼前的陌生，我想這就是一種文化衝擊吧?
“identity”是我這幾個月的英國教育體系中所學習的重要課程，以「自我」出發，以「自我」聯想，以「自我」創作，我開始思考什麼是identity，是種族?是文化?是性別?是地位?或許每個人心中的答案並不相同，於我而言最貼切意思是—認同感。
某一天下午，我攜著我的單眼相機，一張張拍下英國街景的風貌，然而似乎有些許不同，眼前的英國景象與腦海中的台灣景色逐漸連接，一點一滴的重疊，剎那間我恍然大悟，原來在我心中漸漸地沒有了所謂的地區差異和文化差異，只有對於地方的認同感。雖然我目前只在英國不到一年的時間，它早已成為我心中的第二個台灣，它與它融合了。
在Fusion這個系列中，我採用拼貼畫的方式將Leeds與台灣各地的街景達到合併的效果。
學習的轉變與融合
在英國求學的階段，我接受了跟往常不一樣的西式教育，而在這期間也是我近幾年當中最有心得的時光，過去自己似乎太追求於畫面的盡善盡美，卻忽略了作畫最主要的核心—思想。這次的展覽中除了中西風景的拼貼畫，還有另外兩個系列畫作，<我們的那雙鞋>和<意識流>是將思想融合在創作中的成果，前者是我觀察社會現象所有的感觸，後者為我對眾生輪迴的生命觀，此次的轉變是前所未有，也是影響我繪畫模式的重要里程碑。
Statement
According to the Cambridge Dictionary,
the meaning of fusion is “an occasion when two or more things join or are
combined”, and the subtitle ‘contradictory aesthetics of combinations as well
as separation’ is my interpretation of my identity. In this exhibition, I
analyzed and merged the different art that I have learned from two cultural
backgrounds into one. I became aware of a surprising contradictory beauty
throughout the process.
The Collision,
Fusion and Creation Between Western and Eastern Culture
Last year, I came to the UK alone. For a
person who has been in Taiwan for nearly 20 years, I felt so excited about
enjoying the new things around me. At the same time, this kind of strangeness I
was confronted with made me afraid. “Is this cultural shock?”, I asked myself.
“Identity” is the name of an important
course that I took in the UK education system over the past few months. What is
identity? Is it gender? Is it status? Perhaps the answer in everyone's mind is
not the same. In my opinion, identity can be sought from others to help people
feel valuable and connected.
One afternoon, I took some pictures of
the British streetscapes. After a while, it seemed to be a little bit
different. The streetscape in front of me gradually morphed into Taiwanese
scenery in my mind. I suddenly realized that there was no such thing as
regional differences and cultural differences. Although I have only been in the
UK for less than a year, it has already become like a second home to me.
Transformation
and Combination in Learning
When
I started studying in the UK, I accepted Western education that was different
from your education before. In the past, I was in pursuit of perfection of the
picture, and I ignored the core thought. As a result, I mixed the thought with
the style of drawing from the past. In addition to the collage of Eastern and
Western landscapes, there are two other series of works in this exhibition.
<Everyone’s Shoes> and
<Consciousness> are the results of integrating ideas into the creation.
The former is talking about the feelings of my observation of social phenomena.
The latter is my view of the life of all sentient beings.
